Nwankwo Kanu: Ex-Nigerian forward set to play for Arsenal against Real Madrid

Nwankwo Kanu moved to the Premier League to play for Arsenal for seven years.

Ex-Nigerian forward Nwankwo Kanu is set to play for English Premier League outfit Arsenal again in a charity game against Real Madrid.

Arsenal announced on their official website that Arsenal legends will play exhibition games against the legends of the current European champions.

A statement on Arsenal’s website said, “Arsenal and Real Madrid will stage two legends matches this year, with former club greats getting together to raise money for charity.”

The charity match will consist of two fixtures whereby both sides will play at home and away.

Real Madrid will host the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, June 3 before Arsenal host their Spanish counterparts at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, September 8.

The money derived from ticket sales and other sources will go to the each clubs foundations.

Kanu featured for Arsenal in their last charity game against AC Milan in 2016 where he scored a hat-trick.

He is expected to line up among Arsenal’s "Invincibles" which include Robert Pires, Sol Campbell, Freddie Ljungberg, Gilberto Silva and Lauren.

Real Madrid will are also set to bring back Raul Gonzalez, Roberto Carlos and Xabi Alonso to wear the clubs shirt.

Arsenal stated that the game will provide the club the opportunity to reach more people around the world.

 

"This double-header against Real Madrid will help us use football and the Arsenal name to reach more young people around the world," the statement said.

This development comes after Ex-Nigerian left back Celestine Babayaro was reported to play for Chelsea again.

Now 41-years-old, Kanu played for Arsenal between 1999 and 2004, he made a total of 119 appearances for the gunners and contributed 43 goals.
